Scared of Change
Let’s face it, change can be very intimidating. It rejuvenates some while others face a soul crushing, heart pumping, chalice of anxiety in its wake. I know it all too well. But before we drink from that chalice, lets dive into what change is and what it means.
Change is an essential part of life. Without it, you simply can not grow. But that doesn’t mean it still doesn’t scare the hell out of people. My advice is to completely get rid of the negatives you have associated with change and when faced with it ask yourself questions like:
- How will this help me grow?
- Is this only temporary?
- Will this change kill me?
The last one is excessive, but so very essential. Because what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger. Seriously.
You Care Too Much Of What People Think
You want to move to New York in hopes of completely revamping your life but your friends think its a terrible move and your parents are less than ecstatic. So then you decide not to do it.
Caring what other people think is one of the biggest reasons for missing opportunities. Not only are you putting the opinions of your loved ones over your own, but you are also living a life they want you to live.
I know you may say ” But they are right I can’t afford it!” or “I don’t have a plan so they are right!” That way of thinking is so limiting and its holding you back. If you want something bad enough you will make it happen. So if you dont have a plan make one, and if you can’t afford it, make it so you can. Life is limitless.
Money Is Tighter Than Tight
Money, it makes the world go round and yet there are people who can barely afford a meal on the table and a roof over their heads.
Money problems are seriously the most depressing problems you will face in life and it definitely can be holding you back, but it doesn’t have to be. If you have a source of income, you have possibilities.
But if your source of income is not cutting it then you may think about getting a second income. Places like Uber, Lyft, Doordash, instacart, post-mates and more can all be a source of second income. But if you are thinking about making more income and someday replacing your job all together by working at home? Start a blog!
Scared Of Rejection
We’ve all been there, you speak up about an idea or give your perfectly researched opinion to have it completely shot right out of the sky. Ugh, it sucks.
Fear of rejection is one of the things that could be holding you back, and for good reason. Most people grow up with a fear of rejection because they experience rejection at a young age.
They stop raising their hands in class, stop answering questions, they stop public speaking and they retreat into themselves. Raise your hand if that was you.
As much as our childhood shapes a lot of what we think and do in our adult years, rejection is unfortunately apart of life. Thats one of the many things that make us different is our opinions. And we won’t always agree.
Try not to take anything personal and ask questions! If your idea has been shot down during a meeting or in class don’t be afraid to ask why. When we understand the thought processes of each other we fear rejection less. Its then not seen as rejection but learning opportunities.
Let’s talk about your self-esteem aka your ego. Ego is another huge thing that could be holding you back. Whether your self-esteem is high or low this could effect your way of looking at not only the world but your life.
When you have a big ego sometimes you may go for things out of your league, like expecting a promotion for a job because you feel you are the best at what you do blocking other more valuable opportunities. Or if you have a small ego thinking you’re not good enough and not going for that promotion and also blocking off a great opportunity.
We all have to check our egos at some point in life whether for the good or bad. But luckily knowing how to cap your ego is one of the things that guarantees you’re not blocking any opportunities meant for YOU!
You have a good job, making decent money, you can tolerate your coworkers and it pays the bills so why interrupt a perfectly ok life? You know that totally cliche quote about how great things happen outside of your comfort zone?
It is the most honest and sound advice you will ever get in your life.
Your comfort zone will kill you.
It’s the truth! Being uncomfortable is the only way to guarantee you will always level up in your personal and professional life. What does being uncomfortable mean? It means to not expect the expected. It means to believe that you can do anything and it means to be adventurous, in EVERYTHING! Find out what works and find out what doesn’t. Either way, don’t get comfortable.
You Put Yourself Last
Everybody always comes before you and what you really want. How they feel or react dictates your every move. You want to make the people you love proud and happy so you feel its better to not rock the boat.
You have to learn to put yourself first. You only get one life and others can’t live it for you. At first those around you will reject anything spontaneous but if they love you they will always support you and your endeavors.
So go ahead write down where you want to go, what you want to do, how YOUR ideal life would look if there where no limits, and go after it!
